Recenzie/Review ONE MOMENT by Kristina McBride

This was supposed to be the best summer of Maggie’s life. Now it’s the one she’d do anything to forget.

Maggie Reynolds remembers hanging out at the gorge with her closest friends after a blowout party the night before. She remembers climbing the trail hand in hand with her perfect boyfriend, Joey. She remembers that last kiss, soft, lingering, and meant to reassure her. So why can’t she remember what happened in the moment before they were supposed to dive? Why was she left cowering at the top of the cliff, while Joey floated in the water below—dead?

As Maggie’s memories return in snatches, nothing seems to make sense. Why was Joey acting so strangely at the party? Where did he go after taking her home? And if Joey was keeping these secrets, what else was he hiding?

The latest novel from the author of The Tension of OppositesOne Moment is a mysterious, searing look at how an instant can change everything you believe about the world around you.

MY OPINION

ONE MOMENT is a intense, disturbing story. It is the story of Maggie, but can be of any of us. One single moment, one single stroke, are enough to mark our alive, to change it entirely. In one moment, we realize that we are people. That we can not prevent fate take its course. One single moment is enough to make us wonder what, and who we are.

ONE TIME is written to show that we are people. That we can suffer. That we can complain about life after that, in some moments, it seems unfair.

But it is right to complain for the perfect life that we believed? Is right to face death? Let us want to change the past? We can suffer the loss of the person who gives us reason of the existence, and then leave it behind, and on with our lives? Is fair to let the past be past, and to focus on the present?

It is because we are humans, and have feelings. It is because we can love, we can hate, we can forgive.
ONE TIME gives a life lesson. It shows how fragile we are in front of life, and how, in one moment, we can become a memory.

The book is so deep that, during the reading, actually start to cry, no matter how you resist. You can't repress your feelings, and they come up, making you wonder if you ever told someone "I love you", just when you feel it. It makes you think of loved ones passed away, who have not ever had time to share your feelings, what they meant for you. And if, after they died, you have forgave them if were wrong... If forgive after you find out, after their death, that were wrong...

ONE TIME is in my opinion, the high book of its kind. It marks you. Follows you for days after finish. CHANGE YOU!

Read the book, because you have what to learn, because describes painful moments, tragic moments, that can happen to any of us anytime.

MY RATING: 5+/5

PAREREA MEA

" I didn't say anything. Just focused on my breathing.
Tanna rubbed her fingernails along my back, giving me goose bumps. "You're still alive, Mags. You might not feel like it. But you have to keep going."
" I love you, Tan, but I need you to leave," I said. "Please."
"You have all of us here to help you through this," Tanna said. "When you're ready. Don't forget that."
She stood then, without another word, and walked away. "

"  "Will we ever be friends again?" Shannon asked.
I shrugged. Thinking about it made me feel all that I had lost. Joey's death should have brought the five of us closer together. Instead, it had ripped us apart."

NOTA: 5+/5
